In recent years, concepts aiming to activate the participants in youth-centred cultural work, have increasingly been focussed on by experts and practically applied. Yet the gap between the growing need for such professional cultural work and its funding is widening.

Since its founding in 1995, the “Jugendkulturarbeit e.V./Initiative for Youth-centred Cultural Work“ has aimed to mend this situation and managed to raise funds in order to finance suitable projects in Oldenburg and its vicinity. Likewise, projects organised by ourselves, have supported this scheme.

Our central concern is the new approach called “Didactics for the Art of Life”, as it is “absolutely essential to watch closely, which motivations young people are driven by, which ideas of their own they have and which special skills they -as the coming generation- yield[1]”.

As the initiative (Jugendkulturarbeit e.V.) also serves as a forum dedicated to safeguarding and publicising the cultural interests of young people, it particularly aims to win them over for a membership.

Objectives, wishes and perspectives

- We are engaged in maintaining the existing drama-pedagogic projects in Oldenburg and the region. Through our support we encourage the founding of additional projects.

- We are planning and developing new youth-centred cultural projects in Oldenburg and the region.

- With our international program “Youth Cooperation for Drama and Education”, we support the current networking between local groups and global partners.

- We organize international meetings of youth drama groups in order to support the intense and wide reaching exchange of intercultural know-how.

- We initiate meetings and conferences in order to enable groups and pedagogues to exchange their experiences.

- By offering advice and instruction, we support drama groups and scenic acting in schools.

- We are serving as a link between the regionally rooted and participatory community-based cultural work.

- We reach these goals by cooperating with other educational and cultural institutions.
